1973 Project

Since our inception in 2017, hundreds of individuals and small businesses have volunteered to be the collective voice and face of the American majority in support of safe and legal abortion. This statement requires courage, and we thank each of you who have stood with us.

Until SB8, the Texas Six Week Abortion Ban, is overturned, nearly all Texans who need abortion care will need to leave the state. It is also expected that abortion will be made illegal in 23 states by the end of June, when the Supreme Court rules on the Mississippi Ban, and overturns Roe v. Wade.

We aim to raise money to help individuals who will need to travel for abortion care. Monies we raise during this campaign will be split equally among organizations that assist Texans with abortion care. We’ve raised and donated 60K to date, thanks to hundreds of small donations and matching angel donor funds.

After June 2022, we anticipate expanding support to people in need nationwide.

The 1973 Project stars the Food and Beverage Industry, but EVERYONE is welcome to participate.

Steps to join the movement

  1. Take a selfie with one of the following slogans or catchphrases:

    • #86TheAbortionBan

    • #LawsOffOurBodies

    • #AbortionIsHealthcare

    • #BodilyAutonomyForAll

The selfie should be of a part of your body with masking tape with your selected catchphrase written on it with Sharpie. This form of label is ubiquitous to our industry, and we’re using this as a symbol of our common bond. Exposed skin reminds us that the Six Week Ban is ultimately about our bodies, our inborn rights to control what has been stolen away.

  2. Tag 3 or more friends on a social media post on Instagram, Twitter and/or Facebook with hashtag #1973Project

    Suggested language for your post:

Texas SB8, the Six Week Ban, is blatantly unconstitutional, injects the government into personal health care, denies our bodily autonomy, and declares that anyone with a uterus is subject to a different set of rules, rules meant to control us, putting our lives and livelihoods at risk.

I stand with the restaurant industry in active protest to SB8, and in support of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that access to safe and legal abortion is a constitutional right.

    I’m donating $19.73 to the #1973Project (
bit.ly/1973Project) which funds organizations helping Texans get the abortion care they need.

I’m calling on all my friends in our industry to stand up with me!
