Preventive Medical and Mental Health Care

A primary goal of IHWSH is to ensure access to preventive healthcare for our volunteers as well as the larger restaurant community. This includes:

  • Comprehensive, gender-appropriate annual check-up, including any needed lab work, tests, routine vaccines and contraception.

  • For individuals over 35, annual mammogram at The Rose for the early detection of breast cancer.

  • For depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns, one-on-one counseling services with providers such as Ethos Wellness .

  • For long-acting contraception, IHWSH is partnering with Texas Children’s Hospital, Women’s Health Surgeons, Comprehensive Women’s Healthcare and other MD volunteers to offer IUDs, hormonal implants, vasectomy.

  • For individuals facing infertility, counseling with a specialist is available.

  • For pregnant people in need of prenatal care and assistance with enrollment with Medicaid, we can expedite this process. Doula services, both labor and post-partum, may be available.

  • For pregnant people in need of information about abortion, we can help in accordance with applicable law.

  • If you’re facing a medical problem, and would like to talk to a peer who has dealt with a similar situation - such as miscarriage, infertility, depression, substance abuse, need for abortion, breast cancer, caregiving, grieving and loss - we’ve got your back.
